Supporting Your Child Y1/2

All children have access to a wide variety of books. Children have the opportunity to choose a book of their choice and also a book levelled at their ability. Parents can support their children’s learning through reading with them every day, taking children to the local library to read about our themes, and by practicing maths with them.

Each week your child will receive a spelling list. Spellings are based on the National Curriculum requirements for KS1.  The spelling list will be glued into your child’s home/school book and there will be spare copies available in the classrooms in case the list goes astray!

Please note, all children have a Times Tables Rock Stars Account and should be using the resources to practise their tables.  Where children cannot access the website from home, they can evidence practising their tables at home on paper to bring in and share with their teacher.

You may find the following websites useful to use at home;

www.ictgames.co.uk – interactive games that support early English and Maths skills

www.phonicsplay.co.uk – there are lots of free phonics games that your child can play, which will be familiar as we use some of the games in class

www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks1 – fun activities linked to the KS1 curriculum
