This week we are learning...

Posted 6/3/2017

This week we will be thinking about babies and looking at the story 'There's a House Inside my Mummy.' Our role-play area is now a Baby Clinic and we will be having a visit from a community midwife on Friday. In math's we are learning about halving and sharing. We are quite short on junk modeling items at the moment - if you have any plastic pots, tubes or small boxes they would be gratefully received please!

This morning the children have thoroughly enjoyed a Judo taster session and will come home with a leaflet that contains further information about Judo sessions at the Forum.

Thank you.

This week we are learning...

Posted 27/2/2017

We hope you have all had a lovely half term?

This week is World Book Week and we will be focusing our learning around the story  ‘Journey’ by Aaron Becker. Don't forget that your child can come to school on Thursday dressed as their favourite character from a book. The story is available to watch on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSYVGnZ5kI8. 'Journey' is a wordless book that we have looked at together in class today - ask your child to tell you the story in their own words.

Our P.E session will be on a Thursday afternoon and we will be working on our tennis skills with Mr Windwood. Please make sure your child has warm, outdoor P.E. kit in school i.e. t-shirt, jumper, tracksuit bottoms/leggings and outdoor trainers. For the last four weeks of this half term Mr Lofthouse will be teaching football to the children on a Monday afternoon – please make sure your child has their outdoor P.E kit with them for these sessions too.

A curriculum letter for this half term will be coming home in your child's book bag tomorrow. Please check the 'Important dates for your diary' section.

Thank you

Wednesday 4th January - Dress up as a superhero

Posted 28/12/2016

Merry Christmas to everyone from all of the Reception staff!

Our Imaginative Learning Project next half term is going to be ‘Superheroes’. On the first day back after Christmas, Wednesday 4th January, we would like to invite your child to dress up as a superhero for the day. This could be as their favourite fictional superhero/heroine; a real-life superhero, e.g. a fireman or a nurse; or someone in your child’s life that they view as being a hero e.g. Mum or Dad. They may come to school dressed in their superhero clothes and stay in them for the remainder of the day.

On this day, we will be having a super cinema experience where we are planning on watching ‘The Incredibles’ together in the hall. We envisage that this will be a great start to our new theme and that it will inspire lots of interesting talk, ideas, writing and art work.

This week we are learning...

Posted 21/10/2016

This week we have been learning new letters and sounds ck, e, u, r. We have also been counting groups of objects and identifying them using the language 'more' and 'fewer'. Your child will be coming home with a 'Little Star' book - please check inside for your holiday activity. Your child  should also have a 'WOW' certificate in their bag that is for you to fill in when they do something amazing at home; if you return the certificates to school we will celebrate your child's achievements and display them outside the classroom. After half term our imaginative learning project will be 'Muck, Mess and Mixtures'. Please continue with reading and practicing  letters and sounds over the holidays. We have had a brilliant first half term and the Reception children are happy and confident in school. In order to promote independence, we would like to ask that after the half term your child comes in to school by themselves. Enjoy the holidays!

Guess what we've been doing...?

Posted 7/10/2016

This week the children have been working hard to learn the letter sounds i, n, m and d. We have also been looking at numbers to 10 - what they look like, how we write them and how we can match a quantity to a numeral, i.e. counting out 6 dinosaurs to match the number 6.  As part of our dinosaur theme, we have been learning about volcanoes. We are making our own volcano and we hope to make it erupt!

Next week we will be looking at Phase 2 letters and sounds g, o, c, k. We will also be learning about 2D shapes and their properties. We will be making a sockosaurus - please could your child bring a sock to school on Monday if they haven't done so already.

In Reception we will be using 2BuildaProfile "Parent Share" to send you photos and notes regarding your child's achievements via email. You can provide feedback on the reports by simply replying to the emails. You can also send your own observations of your child to the class teacher which can then be added to their Learning Journey. If you have any queries about this, please ask.
